Located on the
Southern coast of the Iveragh peninsula and set against the backdrop of
spectacular scenery, and stunning views, Caherdaniel and neighbouring Castlecove
have much to offer the visitor.
The
area is rich in cultural history too with Derrynane House and
National Park, home of
Daniel O'Connell The Liberator (1775-1847), Staigue
Fort at Castlecove, probably Ireland's finest example of a Stone Fort
and of course, the Old Abbey.
Derrynane
has much to offer the nature lover too - from natural rock pools and sandy
coves to natter jack toads, migratory birds and wildflowers and the diverse
landscape offers both gentle strolls and hiking trails.
The Stone Fort
of Caher (c 600 B.C) is what gave Caherdaniel its name and this
can be found on The Kerry Way famous walking trail which is to
the north of the village. The Kerry Way is the longest and one of the most
scenic hiking trails in Ireland and it is well worth exploring at least part of
it. The trail is divided up into manageable sections and route maps are
available to help you plan your walk.
